2009/2010
On Bank Holiday Monday, 31st August 2009 we held our 4th Charity Match at Disley Amalgamated Sports Club,
Manchester City All Stars v TV Soap Stars. We raised about £5,500 for the
Harley Slack Fund.
Four-year-old, Hazel Grove youngster Harley Slack lost all his limbs after contracting
deadly meningitis B. His plight has captured the hearts of everyone who has heard his story.
This event aims to raise as much money as possible to help Harley, who will need new limbs
on a regular basis until he stops growing. Harley's parents Adam and Samantha were introduced
to the players before kick-off and were presented with a bouquet of flowers by High Lane
chairman Peter Motley. Samantha said, "The whole event was fantastic and a really good day. We
were in the VIP area with the players and the actors and we got a bit star struck. They were
so nice and when we thanked them for coming along they said thank you for inviting us."
Here is the match report:

For the fourth year in succession High Lane Football Club held an all stars charity football
match at Disley Amalgamated Sports Club. Each time former Macclesfield Town manager Derek
Partridge has sent a Manchester City All Stars team up to play. For the the first two matches
they faced our own High Lane Veterans team, and last year it was the turn of a Stockport
County All Stars team, who all kindly give their time for charity.
This year however High Lane were proud to host a team of TV Soap Stars including Ralf Little,
Coronation Street actors Jack Shepherd (David Platt), Alan Halsall (Tyrone Dobbs), Ryan Thomas
(Jason Grimshaw), Waterloo Road's Adam Thomas (Donte Charles) and Holloyoaks' Nico Mirallegro
(Newt) as opponents for the City All Stars.

With around 2,000 spectators coming to enjoying the event the kick-off was delayed by 70 minutes
due to roadworks on the A6. Some of the players were stuck in traffic jams and arrived after
the match had started, we eventually got underway at 2.10pm.
The City All Stars team scored first, but the Soap Stars went into the break 3-1 up.
City pulled a goal back after half-time, but minutes later the Soap Stars opened up a
three-goal lead, one of which was an own goal for 5-2. City unbeaten in their previous three
High Lane charity matches fought back to level the scores at 5-5, only for the Soap Stars to
snatch a winner at the death, final score 6-5.
This was another fantastic event, well organised and well supported by the local community.
High Lane chairman Peter Motley would like to thank on behalf of High Lane
Football Club, the managers, players and families from both Manchester City and the Soap Stars for
their involvement, and thank all those who supported on the day, as well as the donations from
local business's and great work behind the scenes from all the Club members, it is a privilege
to be involved in such a great team effort.
