Under 10s 'A'

Match report by David Wilde.
After the pitch surviving the recent bad weather, High Lane faced a Hollingworth team which we had never beaten. I use Hollingworth as a mark of how far this team has come in a year, the first time we played these we were beaten 8-0 at the very start of the lads first season. Recent results have ended in three draws. Today though there was only ever going to be one winner, a very determined High Lane side.
The lads started well and were by far the better team, with every single player linking up with their team mates very well. However despite High Lane's early dominance they went behind to a defensive mix up between Harper and Taylor, as I say every week though these mistakes are what make you better. High Lane as usual came back at Hollingworth and following some nice passing between Shaw and Jeffs the ball found Southern who found the corner of the net. 1-1 at half-time.
High Lane were dealt a blow when Goalkeeper Harper had to come off feeling ill, however this gave an earlier than expected opportunity for Wilson (Big John) to make his debut. After impressing in goalkeeper training over the last few weeks I had full confidence he would be fine. High Lane continued to press forward with both Shaw and Hind coming close to putting us in front. Melville and Taylor were handling Hollingworth attacks with ease, and when their attacks got past the strong defence Wilson showed great hands catching the shots. Jeffs was trying his hardest to put his team mates in a good position to score, Hind was showing brilliant hold up play, showing superb control and linking up with midfielders to help them get their shots in, with 5 minutes remaining Jeffs played a one-two with Southern and skipped around the last defender then hit an unstoppable shot into the corner. And with that shot came the win High Lane had thoroughly deserved.
Man of the Match was Dan Taylor who showed great composure and broke up many Hollingworth attacks. Special praise for a superb debut from Wilson, and well done to the lads for another superb win.
